May brings Awareness to Asthma and Allergies!

This month we bring awareness to Asthma and Allergies as this month coincides with the season for asthma and allergy sufferers. AAFA (Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America) recognize this month bringing awareness to the 25 million people in the US who have asthma. Did you know that 7 million of those people are children? In just 2010 alone about 13 million people reported having an asthma attack.

If you have asthma your airways are always inflamed. Airways become even more swollen and the muscles around airways tighten when something triggers your symptoms. Many people with asthma also have allergies, called allergic asthma.

So you should probably know the signs and the symptoms for asthma and allergies. Taking early action, which can be preventable action, can improve the quality of life for asthma and allergy sufferers. Asthma can be serious, so please make sure that you pay attention to your children’s symptoms.

Asthma symptoms include, coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, and tightness in the chest. Allergies can vary in symptoms and in severity, but mild allergy symptoms include congestion, skin rash, and itchy watery eyes. Severe allergy symptoms can begin with itching of the eyes, face, but soon progress to swelling. Cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting can also occur. May brings awareness to asthma and unfortunately there is no cure for asthma, that is why it is best to know about symptoms and more.
