Bringing Awareness to American Diabetes Month!

This month of November we bring Awareness to Diabetes in the United States. This disease is the leading cause of disability and death in the U.S. according to healthfinder.gov. Diabetes can cause blindness, nerve damage, kidney disease, and other health problems if it is not taken care of. About 30 million Americans have diabetes, that is one in 10 people in the U.S.! Additionally 84 million Americans are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

People that are at risk for type 2 diabetes can lower their risk by more than half if they make the right changes in their lives. Eating right, physical activity and maintaining a healthy weight are just a few ways you can help lower your risk. If you know someone who has diabetes or if you have diabetes, make sure you are doing everything possible to maintain and take care of yourself.

About 193,000 Americans under the age of 20 are estimated to be diagnosed with diabetes according to diabetes.org. Diabetes remains the 7th leading cause of death in the U.S in the year 2015.
