How healthy is your Kidney? March brings awareness to our Kidneys!

Did you know that your kidney’s are important? NKF wants all Americans to pay attention to their kidneys and get a well-deserved check up. Our Kidneys filter 200 liters of blood a day, regulate blood pressure and direct our red blood cell production. 1 in 3 Americans are at risk for kidney disease due to diabetes, family history and every high blood pressure. About 30 million Americans have kidney disease, and most don’t even know it.

During this month NKF offers free screenings, are you at risk quizzes, Live twitter chat with Dr. Joseph Vassalotti.

Kidneys are two, fist-sized organs in your lower back. They do so much like filter waste out of 200 liters of blood each day. They regulate body salt, potassium and acid content, and also remove drugs from the body. Kidneys balance the body’s fluids and even releases hormones that can help regulate blood pressure. Vitamin D even comes from them, promoting healthy bones.

Kidney disease is the 9th leading cause of death in the country. At this time there are 95,000 people waiting for kidney transplants. 590,000 people will have kidney failure in the US today! This is a scary number and so we hope this month you can help promote healthy kidneys with awareness, share this today!
